IDP 316 [Critical] Design Thinking Studio
IDP 316 is a blended class that combines studio work in design with seminar discussions about design in the world.
FridaysOn seminar days, we will engage with critical debates about the role design plays in shaping the human experience, in perpetuating or rethinking injustice and in transforming our social systems.
What you'll learn
All Semester!You’ll learn how to critique design and how to think like a designer. You’ll learn how to design your way through ambiguity, how to use empathy for others to inspire innovation, and how to use playful experimentation to reframe tricky problems.
Mondays and WednesdaysOn studio days, we will work individually and in teams to design compelling new solutions for challenges our clients face. We will focus on Smith with an eye for opportunities to design interventions, things, processes or experiences that transform our campus.
IDP 316 is open to all students, first years and sophomores included!
We meet MW1.10-4.00pm and F1.10-2.30pm for an action-packed semester of learning and pushing boundaries.
No prior experience is required.
