Digital Labor and the Limits of Design

Monday 3 April, 4.30- 6pm Graham Hall – Hillyer

Join the Design Thinking Initiative as we host Lilly Irani for the final event this year in our Speaking of Design… lecture series. Lilly Irani is Assistant Professor of Communication & Science Studies at University of California, San Diego. She is a co-founder and maintainer of digital labor activism tool Turkopticon. In her lecture, Lilly Irani will discuss the lessons learned from designing and running Turkopticon, offer implications for how activists approach design interventions, and share reflections on how discourses of “design thinking” can produce rather than address inequality.

Speaking of Design… Etosha Cave & Anna Ly

The Design Thinking Initiative invites you to join us as we host speakers Etosha Cave and Anna Ly. The first in our second annual Speaking of Design… series, the lecture will explore the strategies and efforts that Etosha and Anna are making to change the world of design and to use the practice of design as a means of addressing sustainability challenges, in the environment and in digital media, respectively.
